Patios and pathways are where stone selection becomes a design choice as much as an engineering one. Foot-traffic-only applications open up thinner flagstone formats, beach pebble accent borders, and mixed material installs. Coralina pavers laid running-bond next to a Mexican beach pebble border read as classic South Florida garden. Hemingway flagstone with creeping ground cover between pieces reads as estate landscape architecture.
Foot-traffic-only allows thinner stone (1 inch is fine). Save the 2-inch depth for vehicle areas.
Mixed-material installs (flagstone with pebble borders) read more custom than single-stone fields.
Plan drainage. Florida rain hits hard, and standing water on stone accelerates wear.
Setting bed (mortar vs. compacted base vs. polymeric sand) drives the final look. Discuss with your installer or our trade rep.
